Waning Dawn

Done for Carpe Diem #884 on our way home: the scent of early rice, the tomb also shakes, autumn coolness, red more red, a lovely name, how pitiful

the crickets let go
of their songs

Penned for A Prompt Each Day. Inspired by the photo below:

Shadows

I
flicker of light
the shadow of a spider slips
out of lantern chimney

II
the adowa dancer
she rims her hair with a halo
 of lantern soot

III
shea butter mixed with soot
granny calls back
her days young

IV
flickering lantern
the length and breadth
of our shadows

Rainbow

rainbow:
the rain and his so-called bowl
little kids argued all day

Summer Waves

caked lagoon
migratory  waves-
home again

Waterfall

silvery curtain
on a mountain wall-
waterfall!

Fountain

first sail...
inside his paper boat
the weight of water

Straw hat

in my hat's shadow
a fingerling

Five African Haiku (Afriku) Pt. 2

I
lunchtime
more protein in my beans-
weevils

II
dawn affair
purrs from my neighbors’ cats
assume a human voice

III
rumbling thunder…
the thought of God
being a rolling stone

IV
household barrel
the secret bathing
of the moon

V
dawn rivalry
a rooster
and muezzin

Five African Haiku Pt. 1

I
shea butter market
sellers hold the sun
in water sprinkles

II
gradually unseating the pond skater
from his water throne
harmattan winds

III
drifting cotton clouds
the sickle moon
harvests all alone

IV
May rains drop-
the bamboo fence
free from termites’ plaster

V
end of the road-
railway track runs
into earth
